Simone Copeland- Mentoring & GirlPower Director

“I am thrilled to become a part of the SCYM family!  Family is a big part of who I am, and I am excited for it to grow! I am a Springfield native and have lived here my entire life.  I am the oldest out of four children to James and Debbie Copeland.  I have 7 nieces and nephews with another niece on the way in December of this year.  Outside of spending time with family, I enjoy listening to music, writing poetry and playing and watching sports, as well as watching cooking and home renovations shows.

I am still learning to step out of my comfort zone and take risks at the Lord’s leading.  It has led to different opportunities, especially these last few years, that have been heart cries for a long time.  I have always wanted to help people, but it has morphed into wanting to love people well over the years.

Working with children has always been at the forefront of my life.  I’ve spent the last 8 years at Fulton Elementary working with children in different capacities.  My last role allowed me to work with 3rd-6th in the afterschool program.  I kept having conversations about children struggling with identity and self-esteem issues and being in need of mentors.  God was listening!  I was approached for the Girlpower and Mentoring positions at SCYM.

I am looking forward to partnering with the Springfield community to invest in the youth in meaningful ways!  I’m excited to be a part of something bigger than myself; a part of a community that has a history and a firm commitment to investing in the youth of Springfield, and Springfield as a whole.”
