STARS stories: One family’s experience

In 2008, SCYM’s STARS Afterschool Program expanded to its second site, High Street Nazarene. That year two twin girls, Myranda and Madyson, started with the program as kindergarteners and have been coming to STARS on Mondays ever since. The twins are in 6th grade this year, so that makes 7 years of STARS! We asked Rose, their grandma, a few questions about their family’s experience being part of STARS.

Q: In your opinion what has been the biggest benefit to the girls during their time with SCYM?

Rose: They have really learned a lot about God and the Bible.

Q: What impact has that had on them at home?

Rose: Their favorite verse is John 3:16 and they love to repeat it around the house and have shared it at a funeral and other family events.

The girls also deal with some bullying at school about the way they dress or about them not having a mom and I really appreciate Stars being a positive place for them to go.

Thank you, Rose, for being part of STARS since it began at High Street Nazarene in 2008! Myranda and Madyson are fantastic girls that we love so much. And thank you, High Street, for being such a great partner to SCYM and Springfield kids for so many years!
