One weird trick for changing lives!

Here at SCYM we are resorting to worn-out gimmicks to get people involved this fall, and since you took the bait and clicked, we are actually going to share this trick with you. No celebrity name-dropping, no strange fat-burning fruit, no easy ways to make money from home.

The one weird trick to changing lives is this:

Show up!

That’s it. It doesn’t matter how big your personality is, or how perfect your hair, or whether you have the right words in every situation. We’ve been doing this for a while, and we can tell you with certainty that what matters to a kid, and what leaves the most lasting impact, is someone who shows up consistently with the love of Jesus in their heart.

DSC_0018Oh, there are all kinds of roles you can have, like helping coach middle school girls through their friendships or healthy habits. Or reading with a small group of elementary school kids, or playing a board game together. Or even helping middle schoolers learn about business. But no matter how good you are at any of these things, the fact of the matter is, 90% of what we do is showing up.

You would not believe the impact that a volunteer who shows up consistently to love kids can have! (Here is a recent story that has moved us about how important our time with these kids is.)

So this fall, if you’d like to take the bait, we’ve got some opportunities for you or anyone you know who has an hour or two to give every week.
