We asked Dwight Dobbins, a SCYM supporter and local business owner, who or what had made his future brighter as a young person. He responded with this story:
“A little league baseball coach made my future brighter. He drafted a fat, slow, white kid onto his tournament-winning baseball team. He saw the potential in kids, and tolerated nothing less than excellence.
One practice was spent hitting ground balls to me. He must have hit 50 to 75 grounders to me while the rest of the team watched. He cheered. He cajoled. He screamed, demanding better. He spoke soft encouragement. He knew I had a greater potential than I saw in myself. Because Lee Morgan, my little league baseball coach, cared, he made my future brighter.”
We thank God for people like Dwight, who went on to play football for South High School and is now the owner of Harding Road Pharmacy, for caring for our community and choosing to invest back into Springfield.
